Woman's Body Found in Fort Worth Apartment Fire

Homicide detectives are investigating; woman did not die of natural cause, according to police.

Fort Worth police are investigating after firefighters found a body inside an apartment at the River Ranch Apartments in Fort Worth Friday morning.

Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at 4701 King Ranch Road at 8 a.m., according to Tim Hardeman with the Fort Worth Fire Department.

Firefighters reported light smoke showing from the building. Crews found a small fire contained by a sprinkler system inside one of the units, but Hardeman said a body was also discovered.

Fort Worth police were called to investigate.

Officers confirmed to NBC 5 late Friday that the 31-year-old woman did not die of natural causes. The cause of death will be determined by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner.

Patrol officers, sergeants and homicide detectives were at the scene, according to Tamara Pena with the Fort Worth Police Department.

Police haven’t commented on the identity of the woman found dead, said whether she lived at the complex or elaborated on her death.

Still, there were tears and hugs as more people arrived in search of answers Friday. Dozens of friends who gathered across from the police tape believe it’s their friend who lives in the unit.

NBC 5's Todd L Davis and Ray Villeda contributed to this report.
