70-Year-Old Man Stabbed to Death With Screwdriver, Police Say

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon, police say

A 70-year-old man was stabbed to death with a screwdriver in Dallas Tuesday afternoon following an altercation with a woman who lived with him, police say.

The altercation happened around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 1900 block of Calypso Street, Dallas police said.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, started to choke his roommate, 35-year-old Chandria Taylor, police said. Taylor told police she feared for her life, so she picked up a screwdriver and stabbed the man multiple times.

The man was taken to an area hospital, where he died from him injuries, police said. Taylor agreed to speak with detectives and told police the man choked her "to the point her breath was impeded," police said.

Police said evidence appeared to support Taylor's claim. She was arrested for an unrelated warrant, while Tuesday's case will be referred to a grand jury.

Editor's note: Police said the call to the 1900 block of Calypso Street initially came in as a shooting.
