Man, Pets Dead After Euless Apartment Fire

Authorities said a man is dead after a fire broke out at a Euless apartment complex Friday morning.

Euless firefighters arrived at the fire at the Terrace Apartments in the 300 block of Park Drive at about 1:45 a.m.

Firefighters said a man and woman were inside the apartment where fire originated. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was transported to a nearby hospital. Her condition is not known.

Neighbor Tawnia Goodman said the man was always on his front porch in his wheelchair.

"It was pretty horrible. He was a really friendly guy," she said. "He said hello to me every day."

The man's pets were found dead inside, officials said. Neighbors told NBC 5 that the couple had three dogs.

Officials said the fire destroyed two units and damaged several others.

"From initial reports, the people inside the apartments they had seen some sparks," Euless Fire Department Battalion Chief Bill Ver Steeg said. "They tried to extinguish part of the fire themselves and it's still under investigation what the cause of the fire was."

Officials said only two of the units were occupied. No other injuries were reported.

NBC 5's Josh Ault contributed to this report.
