Carrollton police said they responded to a shooting call at the apartment in the 1100 block of East Vandergriff Drive and found 55-year-old William Michael Gyger fatally shot. The caller reported hearing a single gun shot at about 12:45 a.m.

Police said they searched the apartment and didn't find any evidence of a shooting. No witnesses reported hearing a gunshot.

The Denton County Sheriff's Office said they later received a call from a person who claimed to be an acquaintance of the shooter. That person said the shooter โ€” later identified as 24-year-old Jacob Nathan Ross โ€” called to say he killed a man and drove away in the victim's car.

Justin police said they spotted the car, conducted a traffic stop and took Ross into custody.

Ross is expected to be charged with murder, police said.

Police said Ross and Gyger knew each other. No motive in the shooting has been released.
