It has been three weeks and two days, but not an hour passes that Jennifer Carroll Fratar doesn't think about her mother and sister, she said.

Dallas police say Keith Hill killed his estranged wife and Fratar's sister, Janice Carroll Hill, and their mother, Jeanne Carroll, and then turned the gun on himself on Nov. 11.

"I didn't get a chance to tell my mother goodbye," Fratar said. "That's the hardest part."

The Carroll family joined other families who have lost relatives to violent crime at Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Dallas Thursday night.

They gathered to remember and honor their loved ones as well as raise awareness of violent crime.

"It's amazing knowing that there are so many people out there that have gone through exactly what we have, and it just stands for what kind of epidemic is out there," Fratar said.

Fratar said she is taking on a cause close to her sister's heart -- children.

Hill was a caseworker for Dallas Child Protective Services. Fratar said she plans to make sure all the children her sister worked with will receive presents this Christmas.

"That's where we're at -- living every day to keep their memory alive," Fratar said. "Maybe a change will happen. A change has to happen."
