Stripping for Scholarships

The Lodge pays tuition for 2 dancers

Carry on a conversation with most dancers at a gentleman’s club, such as conversations go in these places, and a goodly number of the girls will tell you they’re there to make money for school.

At least that’s what some of my buddies have told me.

That is, indeed, the case with two entertainers at The Lodge, one of whom is working toward her graduate degree.

The two — Christina Smith and Samantha Thorman — recently won full scholarships from The Lodge for the 2010-11 school year.

Smith, a graduate of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, now studies political science at the University of Texas at Dallas in working toward her master’s degree. Thorman majors in business and finance as a junior at the University of North Texas.

Frankly, I now wish I’d taken my mom’s advice about becoming a college professor. Sigh. Of course, there’s that little matter of qualification.

Anyway, the pair applied for the scholarship program with equally impressive, um, credentials. Dawn Rizos, owner and CEO of the club, said they historically award only one scholarship per year but Smith and Thorman “were so impressive and such great examples of what we strive to accomplish here that we just couldn’t choose between them.”

I can see her point.

Bruce Felps owns and operates East Dallas Times, an online community news outlet serving the White Rock Lake area. He volunteers to help either or both with their homework … pleeeeeessse.
