A string of residential burglaries has the sleepy little Parker County suburbs of Aledo and Annetta on alert.

Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said about five burglaries have been reported in the past few weeks.

In one instance, a mother and daughter in Annetta interrupted a burglary at their home. April Webb said she felt violated after she stumbled upon burglars inside her home a few weeks ago.

"I was mad about the whole thing," she said.

Webb said five people were in her house. She said it was "a very scary situation."

"It's the middle of the day," she said. "We did not anticipate that kind of thing to happen."

Webb said she dropped her 17-year-old daughter, Allyson, saw five men run out the front door after her mother dropped her off at the mailbox at the top of the driveway.

"I looked at them and told them to stop," Allyson Webb said. "One turned around, and they went faster."

She said she ran after them, something she now has second thoughts about. Webb said it was "adrenaline, I guess."

"I'm chicken," she said. "I don't usually do stuff like that. It just scared that someone was in my house, and I just wanted to get them."

Her mother said their home was ransacked. It seemed as if the men intended to clean the house out, cars and all.

"There were a bunch of my husband's tools in the backseat, and my car was running at the time," she said.

April Webb said the men gained entry to the house by kicking in the back door.

They left behind most of the loot, but were able to steal about $2,500 worth of odds and ends, "mostly things they could stuff in their pockets," Webb said.

"They got some cash, my daughter's boyfriend's class ring, cameras, that kind of stuff," she said.

Her daughter said she got a good look at the getaway vehicle.

"I was thinking, 'I'm stopping them,'" she said. "I ran pretty much across the neighbor's yard to try and get the plates on the white Suburban."

But she said she wasn't able to get the full license plate number.
