Robber Kidnaps Officer's Wife Near Katy Trail

Dallas police say a robber kidnapped a woman at gunpoint not far from the Katy Trail on Monday morning.

A man forced the 24-year-old woman back into her car when she got out to walk into work at Katy Trail Animal Hospital.

Her co-workers said the man forced her to drive to several ATMs across the city and withdraw money.

“I know that anytime she would look at him, he would scream at her and tell her not to look at him, while holding a gun,” said Debbie Bumbard, a receptionist at the animal hospital.

The man got out of the car on Ervay Street in Dallas and was last seen running northbound.

The victim, who is married to a Dallas police officer, declined to be interviewed.

Police said she remained surprisingly calm.

“She did everything by the book -- followed the demands of the suspect -- and that is probably why she wasn’t injured,” Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse said.

Her co-workers said they are now taking precautions.

“We are using a buddy system," Bumbard said. "If you get here in the morning and no one is here, you are to stay in the car, and we are walking in together."

Police say they are looking at whether the case is connected to other robberies in the area.
