A man has been shot and killed after suburban Dallas police say he pointed a BB gun at them.

Irving police spokesman David Tull said officers were investigating a shots-fired call early Saturday when they came upon the unidentified man, who was carrying the BB gun.

Officers ordered the man to drop the gun, but instead he pointed the weapon at them. That's when he was shot.

He was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Police say the man was staying with a relative in southwest Irving and went outside with the gun to investigate noises.
