Police Investigate Unexplained Deaths of Teen, Infant

Irving police continue to investigate two mysterious deaths Thursday morning.

Irving police said a relative called police at about 8 p.m. Wednesday reporting a body inside a home in the 1000 block of Briar Oaks Drive.

Officers went inside and found the bodies of 15-year-old Rebecca Nicole Ray and her 1-month-old son Cole Childress. Police said the child was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Irving police said there was no evidence of violence or injury to Ray or her child, and no sign of a struggle. Autopsies will be performed Thursday morning to determine cause of death.

Police are sharing few details, as they investigate. They said they are not ruling out foul play, but have no person of interest yet.

The Irving Independent School District said Ray was a freshman at Jack E. Singley Academy in Irving where she was taking classes for law specialty. She attended Lamar Middle School and would have attended Nimitz High School if she hadn't gone to Singley Academy. Irving ISD has sent grief counselors to all three schools.
