Grand Prairie police are investigating alleged indecent acts involving a 30-year-old teacher and a 12-year-old victim.

Police said Robin Smith, of Grand Prairie, was arrested Monday afternoon at Grand Prairie Independent School District headquarters after an investigation that begun Nov. 7.

The school district placed Smith, a seventh-grade math teacher at Truman Middle School, on administrative leave after the accusation surfaced.

The acts are alleged to have happened in the 2006-2007 school year with a 12-year-old student at John Adams Middle School, where Smith taught at the time, investigators said.

"It is uncertain at this time what was said that brought these allegations to light, but the student actually contacted a witness and was able to make an outcry at that point," police Sgt. Mike Gudgel said.

Students at Adams Middle School called Smith a cool teacher and said they liked him.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact police.

Once the investigation is complete, Grand Prairie police will refer the case to the Dallas County District Attorney's Office.

Smith was out on bond Tuesday. Attempts to contact him Tuesday for comment were unsuccessful.
