Dozens of Weapons Found at DFW Airport

The number of weapons confiscated by security guards at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport has increased as the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, approaches.
While screeners normally find one or two weapons per month, in the last two weeks they have found 17. The weapons they have found include loaded guns at the checkpoint, undeclared guns in checked baggage, a butterfly knife and a pellet gun.
DFW Airport is one of the few in the United States that allows people to carry firearms in the general public areas of the terminal, and sometimes people forget and go through security with them. However, many believe allowing the guns anywhere near the airport poses a security risk.
Though fortunately the weapons are being caught, security isn't fool proof. In 2006, screeners at Newark Liberty International Airport failed 20 of 22 security tests conducted by undercover U.S. agents.
People who need to transport certain kinds of weapons can usually keep them in their checked-in luggage.
