An alert mother helped her family escape from their burning home early Monday morning.

The woman told firefighters she woke up to a loud pop in her kitchen and thought someone was breaking into her home on the 2100 block of Sheraton in Carrollton.

The woman grabbed a bat and went to investigate and found her home filling up with smoke.  She immediately woke her family and got them out of the house.

Investigators have not officially determined the cause of the fire, but believe it may have been electrical in nature.

There were no reported injuries.
