An 18-year-old Springtown mother is starting her Mother's Day weekend in jail.

Deputies arrested Nichole Dawn Marlar last Saturday and charged her with two counts of injury to a child with serious bodily injury.

Child Protective Services contacted the Parker County Sheriff’s Office on April 29 after Marlar's 8-month-old son was brought in to the Cook Children’s Medical Center emergency room. The medical staff reported several fractures to the infant’s arms and legs as well as a skull fracture.

Marlar told investigators that she may have injured her son by picking him up too hard and also said that she had dropped him on another occasion, Parker County sheriff’s deputies said.

Marlar remained in jail as of Friday afternoon, with her bond for the two charges set at $100,000.  The charges are a first-degree felony. If she is convicted, Marlar faces up to five to 99 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine for each count.

Her son was released from the hospital and placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
