Irving celebrated the opening of a new park designed for children with disabilities on Saturday.

For three years, the city has worked on the play area created specifically for children with disabilities. To accommodate their needs, the openings on the jungle gyms are larger, the ground is made of soft rubber in case a child falls, and the softball field is flat to help children with limited mobility.

The grand opening for Miracle Park included a ribbon-cutting and an inaugural softball game.

Theresa Weatherly was at the grand opening to watch her son play ball.

"He was just recently diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, and so this is an opportunity for him to feel like he belonged," she said. "It means the world to me that there's this opportunity."

Irving is the latest North Texas city to build an all-accessible playground. Ponder, University Park and Arlington all have similar parks.
