Man Accidentally Shoots Self Inside School

An investigation is under way after an off-duty district employee accidentally shot himself in the groin Monday inside Umphrey Lee Elementary in South Oak Cliff, authorities said.
The man, who was not identified, was in the school's maintenance area at about 7:30 a.m. when a gun inside his pocket discharged, school officials said. There were students in the school, but none nearby, school officials said.
The man was taken to Parkland Hospital. There was no word on his condition.
School officials said the man doesn't work for the elementary school, but works for the Dallas Independent School District's service center. He was on campus because he has grandchildren who attend the school, school officials said.
It's a felony to carry a gun on school property.
