Up In Smoke: Man's Hidden Dope Smolders in Car Wreck, Police Say

In what sounds like something out of a Cheech and Chong movie, an Irving man was arrested Monday after police discovered a hidden stash of marijuana smoldering under the hood of his car.
It wasn't hard to find. The man's car apparently gave off smoke signals after he was involved in a minor traffic crash at the intersection of North MacArthur and Coker at about 6:30 p.m.
An officer filling out an accident report was writing down the VIN number from Matthew Allen's windshield, when the officer smelled the aroma of marijuana coming from under the bent hood of the damaged vehicle, according to an Irving police case summary.
The officer peered through the opening and spotted the pot, sitting on top of the engine along with some methamphetamine, Irving police said.
"It was just warmed enough to be smelled due to the engine heat," said Irving Police spokesman David Tull.
Officers later served a search warrant at Allen's home where they found more narcotics, police said.
It's not quite Cheech and Chong's van built of pot, but in the end it was apparently just as risky.
