Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief has declared Friday "Go Purple Day" and wants everyone donning purple to support the TCU Horned Frogs.

On Thursday the Chesapeake Energy building in downtown Fort Worth was little up purple in support of TCU, the building will remain purple until dawn on Monday.

Texas Christian University, currently ranked fourth in the nation, their highest ranking since 1956, plays No. 16-Utah on Saturday in Fort Worth.  The game has national title implications and could help land the Frogs in a BCS Bowl Game.

"Coach [Gary] Patterson and his team have placed Fort Worth on the national stage, and we are all very proud," Moncrief told the Star-Telegram. "Let’s show our visitors from Utah we are ready and have our game faces on, as well as our colors."

Though it's likely the Horned Frog nation already planned to sport purple in preparation for Saturday's showdown, Moncrief made his appeal to North Texas residents to "purple-up" Fort Worth on Thursday, and he isn't stopping with just clothing. Several buildings and landmarks around downtown, including the Avenue of Lights, will all be drenched in purple lighting for the big game.

TCU has threatened to play the BCS-buster role several times in recent years, but has lost to the Utes in each of the last three seasons, including a last-minute 13-10 loss last year.

Make no mistake, every Frog fan knows what is at stake this week. To further illustrate how big of a matchup has become, for the first time ever ESPN is heading to Fort Worth with their College GameDay broadcast -- which begins at 9 a.m.

"Everybody likes a Cinderella story," Patterson said. "My goal in the next three weeks is try not to break Fort Worth's heart."

Saturday's game at Amon G. Carter stadium is sold out.  Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.  The game is being broadcast on CBS College Sports Network. If you do not have that channel and want to see the game ... you'll need to head to a sports bar that plans to broadcast the game.
