Four men arrested fighting roosters, police say

Four men were arrested Saturday on charges of animal cruelty after Fort Worth police said they were caught preparing to fight roosters in a backyard.
Police were investigating a complaint in the 3100 block of Lulu Street about 4:30 p.m., when officers "observed from an adjoining yard several subjects preparing to place roosters in the fighting cage," said Sgt. Pedro Criado.
"Officers stopped them and made arrests," Criado said.
Samuel Yebez, 27, Teofico Garcia, 38, and Adrian Salas-Rodriguez, 26, face charges of animal cruelty.
Mario Gutierrez-Rios, 23, was arrested on a charge of attempted animal cruelty.
Arrest records show Gutierrez-Rios lived at the house.
The Humane Society of the United States says cockfighting is a "centuries-old blood sport" in which at least two gamecocks are placed into an enclosure to fight "for gambling and entertainment."
The fight usually results in the death of at least one of the birds, according to the Humane Society's Web site.
