Drivers who receive a red light camera ticket in Fort Worth may soon be able to fight the citation in a jury trial.
Currently people who are cited have to either pay the fine or request an administrative hearing.
Deputy City Attorney Gerald Pruitt recommended Monday that the Fort Worth City Council change its ordinance to allow jury trials for red-light cameras.
"In our view, it’s a constitutional right," Pruitt told the Star Telegram.
Driver who received the violations, which are considered a civil penalty like a parking ticket, face a $75 fine.
Some people expressed concern about placing any more of a load on Fort Worth's already maxed out municipal court system.
The city council may soon vote on the measure.
