Members of the Dallas Cowboys and their wives teamed up with the Salvation Army and Billy Crystal for a little early Thanksgiving dinner Tuesday.

"I've done this with other professional teams and other friends of mine," said Crystal. "You go and give back, and it makes you feel good."

Players, including DeMarcus Ware, Jason Witten and Tashard Choice, and the comedian helped serve lunch to about 200 people at a North Texas homeless shelter.

"It's cool because they know all about us," said Choice, a running back. "To help them out, that's really cool."

The event is an annual tradition for the Cowboys.

"It's more than football," said Choice.

The team always plays on Thanksgiving Day. The same day, the Dallas Cowboys help the Salvation Army kick off  its annual holiday kettle drive.

Billy Crystal is in town to perform his Tony Award-winning Broadway show "700 Sundays," which opened Tuesday at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in the Dallas Arts District.

The show runs through Nov. 22.

Crystal said he was happy to be help the Cowboys serve up lunch.
