Dallas police say an armed robber is carjacking men driving expensive cars near Uptown Dallas.

Investigators have connected at least six cases so far, including one in Highland Park. In the past three weeks, the man has gone after BMWs, Mercedes and other high-end cars, forcing the men behind the wheel to drive to ATMs at gunpoint and withdraw cash, police said.

“I thought this was a pretty safe neighborhood,” said Amir Eftekhari, who recently moved to Uptown.

Police said all of the carjackings have happened between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. In almost every case, the driver has been parked in a business or grocery store parking lot, investigators said.

“It’s just crazy,” said Uptown resident Shawn Hughes. “You got to watch your back when you get out of your car and when you get in it.”

Police said several of the victims weren't paying attention and were talking on their cell phones or text messaging when the robber approached the window.

Dallas police said they’re paying extra attention to Uptown parking lots for now.

“It’s really easy to drive in here get your business done and leave,” said Uptown resident Kerry Breen. “I think that’s what’s happening, and I have serious concerns."

Dallas police have recovered almost all of the stolen cars. Police said the robber is ditching them near the intersection of Lemmon Avenue and Hudnall Street and then getting into another car to make his getaway.
