DPD Shuffles Detectives to Handle Surge in Violent Crime

The Dallas police homicide unit is overwhelmed after a violent weekend added eight new cases since Friday.
Supervisors have pulled detectives from other units to make sure all of the cases -- four suicides and four homicides -- are properly investigated.
"It seems like a rash of things to happen in such a short period of time," Lt. Craig Miller said.
Four detectives from the cold case squad, many of whom are former homicide detectives, are temporarily helping out in what police said was a rare situation. Many of the detectives on the cold case squad are former homicide detectives.
"To have them as a resource to call on them with their expertise and their interview skills is very advantageous for us," Miller said.
Dallas police said a shortage of detectives will not hurt the investigations.
"I feel very sorrowful that we have had the number of homicides, but I feel very positive we will bring resolution to all the case that we deal with today," Miller said.
