CQ Press is out with its crime rate rankings of cities and metro areas in the U.S.

The rankings are calculated using crime statistics including murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and car theft.

Allen is in the Top 10 of safest cities, ranked nine out of 385 on the list.

These rankings are controversial.

Some experts say many factors, like population density, composition of population, climate, economic conditions, strength of local law enforcement, local residents attitudes toward crime, cultural factors, education levels and crime reporting practices impact these figures.

Here is how other North Texas cities fared.
