Daytime Vehicle Theft Caught On Mall Cameras

Arlington police are looking for three suspects caught on camera, in the middle of the afternoon, stealing a pick up truck at The Parks Mall on Interstate 20 at Cooper.

In the video, the three suspects arrive in another car and park near a Chevy Silverado with fancy wheels.

Two suspects appear to stand around as look-outs, as the third one quickly hot wires the truck. Then both vehicles drive away.

“That’s really surprising, especially in the middle of the day,” said shopper Kelly Chambers.  “You don’t really think about it except for at night.

Police spokesperson Tiara Richard said the crime occurred last Friday around 3 p.m. as officers watched, too.

“They started a chase, but realized (for) the time of day, the type of offense didn’t merit the chase, and it just might have been a hazard to people in the roadways,” Richard said.

The truck was recovered later in Dallas, stripped of its fancy wheels.

Now, Arlington Police have released the video, hoping someone recognizes the suspects.  Police also caution shoppers to be aware in busy holiday parking lots.

“More often than not, people just don’t pay attention to people just standing in a parking lot,” Richard said.  “So we’re asking people just be more cautious, be more aware of your surroundings.”
