A police chief said one person has been found dead in a house that caught fire in Murphy Sunday morning.

A preliminary investigation indicates that "the fatality is not associated with the fire," said Murphy Police Chief G.M. Cox.  Cox said the home was fully engulfed in flames when police and firefighters arrived.

The fire and cause of death of the victim, whose name wasn't released, remains under investigation.

Neighbors told NBCDFW they plan to reach out to the victim's family to see what, if anything, they can do to help.

"Our church, we're going to be contacting the family ... just to see if there's anything we can do to help them," said a neighbor.

Murphy is about 18 miles north of Dallas.
