The financially strapped Arlington Independent School district is considering selling space on its school buses for district-approved ads, the Star-Telegram reported.

The school district is working out contract plans with Houston-based Alpha Media. Michael Beauchamp, the company’s president, told the paper that Arlington would keep 60 percent of the monthly revenue and could make up to $200,000 the first year.

"It’s an opportunity for us to generate some additional revenue and help us potentially reduce our deficit," Cindy Powell, AISD's associate superintendent of finance, told the paper. "We’re trying to look for those types of opportunities."

Six years ago the Grapevine-Colleyville district tried selling ads on its buses, but wasn't able to bring in enough money to make it worthwhile, a district spokeswoman said.
