74-Year-Old Turns Heads In National Pageant

74-Year-Old From Farmers Branch Wins Beauty Pageant

After winning a national pageant in New Orleans, a 74-year-old North Texas woman proves she's still got it.

Beth Weems Pirtle competed in the senior division of the American Dreams Pageant, and came away with top honors. She said there's no feeling like the crowning moment at a pageant.

"When they finally announce your name, it's always like, 'Oh,'" Pirtle said.

While this wasn't Pirtle's first pageant win, it had been awhile. Beth won the miss Texas Senior Pageant in the late 90's.

"But I never ever thought that I would compete again," Pirtle said.

This spring, Pirtle was invited to be a contestant in the American Dreams Pageant. She said a new purchase just weeks prior to receiving the invite helped push her to do the competition.

"It was the first time they had had a senior division and I thought, 'Oh, now I can wear my new dress,'" Pirtle said.

It was a wise decision. Not only did Pirtle win the senior division, she won people's choice. Even her new dress got an award.

"My new Terry Costa dress won best evening dress of all the evening dresses," Pirtle said.

Pirtle said she's proud of her new title and of the fact that at 74 she's still a beauty queen.

"For a 74-year-old woman, I had a good time," Pirtle said.
