Wireless Fetal Monitors Ease Labor

Texas Health Fort Worth is using wireless fetal monitors to aid mothers during the labor process.

"It allows the mother to be mobile in the room. It keeps them from having to be in the bed or close to the bed," says Kathleen Donaldson, a certified nurse midwife.

The new wireless monitor works off Bluetooth technology and adheres to the mother’s abdomen.

It monitors fetal heart rate, maternal pulse and contraction pattern.

Mothers are able to walk, bathe or maintain mobility, which could ease laboring.

"It also frees the nurse up from having to constantly be adjusting the monitors, helping the patient get into positions that suit the monitor, rather than getting the patients in position that suits the patient," said Donaldson.
