Tarrant County Reports 8th Flu-Related Death

Tarrant County said Friday an eighth person died from influenza-associated illness, the news comes as many counties report the flu season has peaked.

The county did not offer any information on the latest victim, but of the adult deaths reported, one patient was in their 30s, two were in their 40s and five were over the age of 70. Six of the deaths have been associated with influenza Type A and two have been associated with influenza Type B, according to the Tarrant County Public Health Department.

The health department said there were no pediatric deaths has been reported.

The percentage of reported influenza-like illness in Tarrant County decreased from 8.8 percent in week three to 8.1 percent in week four, but is still above last year's average.

Earlier this week, John Peter Smith Hospital canceled its "code yellow: that had been in place for 15 days to help the emergency room cope with the demand of sick flu patients.
