The Dallas City Council is expected to vote next week on a stricter smoking ban.

On Wednesday the council heard public comments on the issue.

If approved, the new ordinance would prohibit smoking inside bars, pool halls, outdoor patios and public parks.

The original ordinance was put in place by former mayor Laura Miller in 2003 and prohibited smoking in restaurants, bingo parlors and most public buildings.
