Down economy does not stop plastic surgery procedures

In lean economic times, patients are opting for Botox and fillers rather than cosmetic surgery.
Despite a down economy, some North Texas plastic surgeons are seeing a dramatic rise in the number of people wanting procedures to keep a younger look.
The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports overall plastic surgery procedures dropped 11 percent last year, but non-surgical procedures jumped 11 percent.
In 2008, Botox led the list of non-surgical procedures.
"They're coming in, but they're waiting a little longer in between intervals. Botox is usually two to three months, so they're waiting four to five months," said Dr. Rod Rohrich, the chairman of plastic surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Patient Eva Burden said she feels refreshed and younger after a procedure adding facial fillers to plump her lips and fix sagging skin around her mouth and eyes.
"I love to shop and I don't go to the malls anymore because I don't know where we are going to stand in a few years," Eva said, who also added that she hopes to consider pricier cosmetic surgery after the economy turns around.
