Pediatric Doctor in Houston Charged for Having Child Porn

A pediatric oncologist at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston has been released on bond as he faces a charge of possession of child pornography.

Dr. Dennis Patrick Hughes was freed on $50,000 bond Wednesday night following a detention hearing in Galveston.

The FBI on Friday raided the physician's home. Court documents indicate agents recovered thousands of files of child pornography.

An attorney for Hughes issued a statement Tuesday saying his client will plead not guilty and has never had improper contact with minors.

Hughes has been put on paid administrative leave and his hospital medical privileges suspended. Officials have not found any breaches of the doctor's hospital computers. M.D. Anderson authorities say they do not believe the case involves any patients or staff.
