Number of Flu Tests Rises in Dallas

Flu season officially started two weeks ago and the number of flu tests has begun to spike.

In the first week of October, 115 patients were tested for the flu. In the following week, more than 600 flue tests were administered. Health officials said that's a relatively low number, but it's a sign that it's time to get a flu shot.

The FDA recommended the strains to be included in the influenza vaccine for the upcoming season and they are expected to be a better match, yielding a more effective vaccine.

The influenza vaccine used for the 2014-15 season was less effective because the strains in the vaccine were not a good match with the circulating strains.

Tarrant County officials haven't posted their flu numbers for this season yet, but they did report some sporadic cases near the end of September.
