New Approach to Home Health Care

A home health service, new to North Texas, has set up shop in two places many people are likely already familiar with — their smart phone and Wal-Mart.

Honor is a Silicon Valley startup with an established position in California that has recently opened pilot locations inside two Wal-Mart stores - one in Arlington and the other in North Richland Hills.

Honor has established itself as something akin to the Uber of home health, because it allows clients to schedule services like cleaning, cooking or bathing via a few taps of its app, called Honor Family.

It also allows the health professionals, which Honor calls CarePros, access to important background information of the client, ranging from their nickname and how many children they have, to their important medical needs.

"I mean it makes the world go round for us," said newly-hired Honor CarePro Allison Espinosa, who has 13 years of experience as a home health aide, about establishing trust and a rapport with her clients.

"Me being able to go into somebody's home and them know that I already know what kind of coffee they you take in the morning makes them feel comfortable. It makes them feel at home," said Espinosa.

In addition to the comfort for both client and provider, Honor claims that a benefit to its service is accountability in the form of immediate feedback provided once any visit is complete.

"That means they get transparency," said Kathryn Parson, General Manager of Honor in Dallas-Fort Worth. "They know exactly what happened as soon as the visit is over. They can see how mom was feeling today, what were her needs, what was her mood, how did she eat. All of that information is right at their fingertips."

The Honor Wal-Mart locations are on Tarrant Parkway in North Richland Hills and U.S. Highway 287 in Arlington.
