First West Nile Death in Tarrant County

Tarrant County Public Health officials say one person is dead after contracting the West Nile virus in the area.

Officials say the victim was a Euless resident in her 60s with underlying medical conditions.

This is the first death associated with West Nile in Tarrant County since 2009, according to health officials. That year, three people died after contracting the virus.

Tarrant County reported 61 human cases of the virus on Tuesday afternoon.

In Dallas County, five people have been confirmed dead after contracting the virus. Dallas County Health and Human Services officials reported 100 human cases of the virus on Tuesday afternoon.
