A person has died after contracting West Nile virus in Lamar County.
NBC 5 is working to try to learn more about the patient, such as their zip code, age and if they had any underlying medical conditions.
This is the first West Nile-related death in Lamar County. To date, Lamar County has reported eight human cases of West Nile virus.
So far this summer, more than 800 people have been infected with West Nile virus in North Texas; 23 of those have died after contracting the virus.
