Since 1988, the World Health Organization has observed May 31 as World No Tobacco Day and this year the city of Dallas is taking part.

City leaders hope to promote a healthier Dallas by urging residents to snuff out their cigarettes this Sunday, hopefully for good.

The WHO said the theme for this year's WNTD is "Tobacco Health Warnings," with an emphasis on photographs that show the effects of smoking.

The WHO said the photos, which are incredibly graphic and disturbing, have been particularly effective at educating people on the harmful effects of smoking.
