Dallas County Reports 8th West Nile Case of 2014

The Dallas County Health and Human Services Department confirms an eighth person has contracted West Nile virus in the county this year.

The infected person lives in the 75243 ZIP code and was diagnosed with West Nile fever, according to Dallas County Health and Human Services.

On Wednesday, DCHHS officials said seventh person to contract West Nile virus in the county also lived in the 75243 ZIP code.

Numerous cities are continuing to spray for mosquitoes, and health officials urge the public to take protective measures by utilizing the "4Ds" to reduce the risk of West Nile virus:

DEET All Day, Every Day: Whenever you’re outside, use insect repellants that contain DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
DRESS: Wear long, loose and light-colored clothing outside.
DRAIN: Remove all areas of standing water in and around your home.
DUSK & DAWN: Limit outdoor activities during dusk and dawn hours when mosquitoes are most active.
