Babies “Latch On” to Health, Breasts

Event raises awareness for benefits of breastfeeding

On Saturday, Aug. 4, thousands of women around the world will gather in their own communities to take part in a synchronized breastfeeding event. The event is intended to raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding and the need for global support.

The Dallas area Big Latch On will take place at 10:30 a.m. at Community Baby Café, located at 8202 Spring Valley Road, Suite 100, in Dallas.  Other Latch On events are being held in Plano, at Nappy Shoppe, and in Fort Worth at the Fort Worth Botanical Garden.  Get more info on locations, or hosting a location, here.

There will be educational booths, door prizes, and refreshments. Participants are encouraged to come early to find a comfortable spot to nurse. Those who are not nursing, including men, are also welcome to attend.

The Big Latch On is based on the principles of community development, providing the opportunity for breastfeeding women to get together in their local communities, host their own events, and identify opportunities for on-going support.

World Breastfeeding Week, celebrated in 120 countries, is August 1-7.  We have not received information on any other scheduled events; however, suggestions in good taste—no pun intended—are welcome in the comments section below.
