A Bloody Great Reason to Party

A Texas company's spin on a very old rite of passage could give you a new reason to throw a party -- or hide under a table.

Menarche Parties R'Us encourages families to celebrate what is often an unfortunately embarrassing moment -- a girl's first period.

The company is based in Garland, Texas, and there have been sightings reported on a local blog of an SUV with the Menarche Parties logo pasted on the door. Hopefully the driver doesn't make her teenage daughter ride shotgun.

In all seriousness, it might not be such a bad idea to give girls an idea of what's going to happen to them and let them know it's nothing to be ashamed of.  But there are limits.

How would Judy Bloom's Margaret have reacted to playing puberty bingo, or a rousing game of pin the ovaries on the uterus?

"Are you there, God? It's me, Margaret. My mom's got this wacked-out sex ed poster on the wall, and she's making us all touch it."

Here's a tip. If you do plan to throw a menarche party, or you get invited to one, don't bring this pie.
