370,000 Painkillers Missing from Parkland Pharmacy

The Parkland Hospital System is at the focus of a federal investigation after hundreds of thousands of painkillers and tranquilizers have turned up missing.

The Dallas Morning News reports $1 million in prescription drugs were stolen from the Parkland Pharmacy on Elam Road in 2007.  In all, 370,000 tablets were taken before officials noticed the drugs were missing and started their own investigation.

Parkland said severl employees were fired for their part in the thefts.

The Texas State Board of Pharmacy may fine the hospital and the employees.

The Federal Drug Enforcement Administration is doing its own investigation.
