Heightened Security As Cowtown Marathon Begins

[DFW] Heightened Security As Cowtown Marathon Begins
As the Cowtown Marathon begins Friday, organizers say new security measures will help keep runners feeling safe.

Runners are encouraged to register for a Saturday and Sunday race.  The Cowtown Challenge medal is awarded to those who register and complete a shorter distance on Saturday and a marathon distance on Sunday.  This special medal is in addition to the medal runners receive for the individual events.

In 2013, The Cowtown boasted 26,822 registered runners, surpassing its previous registration record.  The Cowtown expects 2014 to be another record setting year so runners should register soon, since distances are expected to fill to capacity.

The Cowtown exists to empower healthy living.  Every runner’s participation in The Cowtown helps support The Cowtown C.A.L.F. (Children's Activities for Life & Fitness) Program to promote and educate children about the importance of creating a healthy lifestyle through physical fitness and nutrition!  The C.A.L.F. Program impacted over 5,000 youth in 2013 by educating them on the importance of eating healthy and staying fit.  It is our hope by reaching out to the children and teaching them these important lessons, we will also impact their families’ lifestyle as well.  In 2013, The Cowtown distributed over 2,100 monetary grants and 2,100 pairs of running shoes to youth in need.
