Reduce Your Electric Bill Online

As the Star-Telegram points out, "now is the time for Texans to seek deals on electricity," due to falling rates nearly across the board -- and Texans can find out how much they'll save with a simple Web site.

The Texas Electric Choice Education Program has a handy site (www.powertochoose.org) that allows users to plug in a zip code before plugging in to the best electricity deal in their area.

According to our research, some Fort Worth areas could take advantage of a Reliant Energy variable rate plan that costs 8.9¢ per kWh. While that rate may save you some big cash in the short term, variable rate plans could rise higher as the demand grows (like during the hot Texas summers) to make June's bill far bigger than January's.

The comparison feature on the Power To Choose site also showcases companies with renewable energy commitments, and other "green" power companies.
