Plano is giving away vouchers to get people to trade in their gas-powered lawnmowers for more environmentally friendly models.

The Collin County city is offering $150 vouchers to the first 250 people that contact them about making the exchange.

The vouchers are being offered to help improve air quality. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that a gas-powered mower emits the same level of pollution on an hourly basis as 11 cars.

Those wishing to obtain a voucher need to contact the city of Plano. The cities of Allen and Richardson are also participating in the program.

The gasoline mowers will be exchanged at the Live Green Expo on April 18 at the Plano Centre.
