Donald Trump's Rise to GOP Presidential Nominee

A lot of people know Donald J. Trump from his hit NBC TV show The Apprentice, but he made millions in the New York real estate market.

Trump is 70-years-old. He was raised in New York City, has a Bachelors Degree in economics and a net worth estimated at about $3.7 billion.

As a teen he was shipped off to military school. Trump called it tough, but good.

He later followed his father's footsteps into the real estate business.

In the 1980s, he was gobbling up prime New York City property. But by the early 1990s, he owed big banks an estimated $900 million when the market dropped.

Trump cut a deal and escaped personal bankruptcy. He rode out the storm and in the late 1990s he was back in business.

Today his brand includes luxurious skyscrapers and golf courses.

He's been married three times, has five children and seven grandchildren.

Trump has switched political parties several times; from a Democrat to a Republican to an Independent and then back to a Republican in 2012.
