Gov. Abbott Endorses Cruz for President

Gov. Greg Abbott is endorsing Ted Cruz for president.

That's not a surprise, given that Cruz was solicitor general when Abbott was Texas attorney general and that Cruz calls the governor a mentor.

Texas is the largest of the "Super Tuesday" states voting next week.

Cruz came home to Texas after finishing in third place in the last three states primary contests.

A new Emerson college poll shows Trump gaining ground on Cruz in Texas.

The poll shows Trump at 29 percent, Cruz at 28 percent and Senator Marco Rubio at 25 percent.

"I believe we're going to do well," said Cruz to reporters on Wednesday after his campaign rally in Houston. He did not give specifics on what defines doing well.

Cruz maintains he is the only candidate who can beat Donald Trump.

"We are now teed up exactly where we intended to be, which is a clear and direct choice for the voters," Cruz added.
