UT Dallas Computer Science Students Get New Internship Opportunity with State Farm

Students have the flexibility of managing their own schedule

Computer Science students at University of Texas at Dallas are participating in a new, "remote" internship opportunity with State Farm.

“This is a first here at UT Dallas,” said Pete Poorman, a corporate relations manager for UTD. “We are excited about this and we would like to replicate this program with other companies,” he said.

Students have the flexibility of managing their own schedule. The office is on the university’s campus, which also allows an extra level of convenience for the students.

“It's really good experience,” said Nick McCoendon, a sophomore participating in the program. “If I need to do something else during the week, I have 10-15 hours to work here and I can pick when I want to work. Its really great. Everything that we’ve learned in the classroom, we’re getting a chance to apply here,” he said.

Citlali Barron, a junior at UTD found the transition to be both challenging and rewarding. “It’s great to work on bigger projects,” Barron said. “Its fun to contribute to something larger than a class assignment." During the internship, she will be helping State Farm developers document their programming.

The internship will last throughout the summer, and will end August 5th.
