Toyota Celebrates Grand Opening of New Plano Headquarters

For the past several months, Toyota has been busy putting the finishing touches on its brand new North American Headquarters in Plano and getting its employees moved in.

Now, the automaker says it's ready to open the doors of its massive facility to the rest of the world.

Toyota hosted a grand opening celebration there Thursday night, complete with a ribbon cutting.

Located in the Legacy West development near the Dallas North Tollway and Sam Rayburn Tollway, the campus is made up of about a half-dozen buildings covering 2 million square feet.

Toyota's North American corporate offices, a branch of its financial unit, and a division of Lexus will all share the space.

When it's fully up and running, more than 4,000 employees will work there.

The company said most of those employees are moving to North Texas from other states. About 1,000 of those employees will be local hires.

North American CEO Jim Lentz said Thursday about 200 jobs were still available. A list of open positions can be found here.

Leaders in Plano have called the project a "game changer" for the city. In addition to the new jobs and new residents it's bringing to the city, they point out that Toyota has invested roughly a billion dollars to make the move happen.

They also estimate the facility will generate $70 million in new tax revenues over the next ten years.
