Toyota Breaks Ground on New Facility in Plano

Toyota has decided to move its North America headquarters to North Texas in a big way.

They will be building their new 100-acre campus off the Sam Rayburn Tollway in Plano.

They broke ground for the new facility on Tuesday.

"This is the right place to begin the next chapter of Toyota's history in North America,” said Toyota North America Region CEO James Lentz.

The new headquarters will bring a possible 4,000 jobs to the area. Many of those will be transfers from their current headquarters in California. There is also a possibility of new jobs, as well.

Instead of using shovels to break ground, Lentz thought it was more appropriate to bring in a Toyota Tundra to do it the Texas way.

"You know it's a lot easier doing this then a bunch of guys up there with shovels, but this is an exciting time for us," said Lentz.

Toyota officials said there were many reasons why they decided to move their headquarters to Plano. They included a more central location, tax incentives and the quality of life in North Texas.

They plan to open the new headquarters in late 2016.
